A Rare Case of Typhoid Fever in the United States Associated With Travel to Mexico - Cureus

Image
Typhoid fever is a systemic illness caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi ( S. Typhi). The disease can initially present with nonspecific symptoms including low-grade fever and abdominal pain, making it diagnostically challenging for treating physicians. Typhoid fever can be deadly with its rapid progression to persistent high fevers and hemorrhagic shock within a few weeks. With timely treatment, mortality rates are 1-4%. Without appropriate therapy, mortality risk can be as high as 10-30% [1]. With more than 27 million cases and 200,000 deaths caused each year worldwide, typhoid fever remains a global health concern [2]. This is a growing problem because of the rise in drug-resistant strains. It is well known that typhoid fever is endemic in regions of South Asia and Africa. How to Get Rid of Sunspots on Face and Body - Greatist

Image
If you have sunspots on your skin from one too many beach days (or you're still being punished for those senior prom tanning sessions), how the heck do you get rid of them? While these dark spots are harmless, not everyone likes the way they look. But there are safe and effective ways to get rid of sunspots (or at least reduce the appearance) at home or by a professional. Sunspots — aka age spots or liver spots — are flat, pigmented spots caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. They can vary in size and usually pop up on parts of the skin that get the most sun (e.g., face, shoulders, hands, and arms). Exposure to UV rays — either from the sun or tanning beds — can cause sunspots. The UV rays pump up the production of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. The good news? Despite being caused by the sun, sunspots don't actually lead to skin cancer and don't require any medical attention or treatment. The bad news? If you have more sunspots that also means you ...

It was declared over August 28, 2019. The state is not currently in outbreak status, but measles is still circulating globally and we could still see more cases in Washington. If you have been exposed to measles and feel ill, stay home to help prevent the spread of the disease. Call your healthcare provider to ask about testing and advice. If you don...
